Jan Caeyers and Le Concert Olympique’s Beethoven expertise and the eloquence of the Arnold Schönberg Choir promise to be an exceptional musical symbiosis. Ludwig van Beethoven’s sole oratorio, ‘Christ on the Mount of Olives’, features moving scenes of Jesus on the Mount of Olives directly prior to his crucifixion. This dramatic masterpiece is seldom performed in concert halls. Now you’ll finally have the opportunity to hear it, with a select group of vocal soloists.
Beethoven’s Third Concerto for piano and orchestra gives the pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout the chance to fly in three sections that are full of passion, playful rondos, brilliant virtuosity and slow, moving passages. Although the Second Symphony breaks with traditional conventions, it is equal to the German grand master’s better-known symphonies.
