The mightier the tour de force, the better, Beethoven expert Jan Caeyers must have reasoned. In the run up to the Beethoven Year in 2020, Caeyers and co. will be firing off a faithful reconstruction of the first imperial ‘Akademie’ in Vienna’s Burgtheater on 2 April 1800 at you. Kristian Bezuidenhout will be rocking the foundations of the Erard concert grand with his performance of Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto, and the monumental ‘Pathétique’ Sonata. The First Symphony and the Septet in E-flat illustrate how Beethoven was battering down the doors of Romanticism around the turn of the century. Finally, Beethoven is joined by two influential fellow travellers, Haydn and Mozart, on this overwhelming journey. A fantastic programme with three-and-a-half hours of masterful music!
