Extra info
introduction Gert Haelterman . 7.15pm . Music Studio
Jan Caeyers and his young orchestral musicians from all over Europe will for the second time be welcoming the Russian piano virtuoso Alexander Melnikov. He opted to share not only a concerto with these musicians, but also a refined specimen of chamber music.
And so you will get a complete Mendelssohn evening starting with the Second Piano Quartet. You will then hear the First Piano Concerto, an original work for pianists who are able to combine dexterity with great musical intelligence. These are qualities that are better united in Alexander Melnikov than most others.
To close, the 'Italian' Symphony ensures even more fireworks. This postcard from Italy is his most highly regarded symphony. Its jollity reflects the carefree and sunny journey the young Mendelssohn undertook in 1830.
