Ravel meets rave in an explosive live performance.
With Rave-L, Maurice Ravel is treated to a birthday celebration that is as explosive as it is unexpected. In this hybrid performance, orchestra, electronics, dance, and live video converge at the crossroads between concert and club culture. The ensemble Les Apaches! and conductor Julien Masmondet dive into Ravel’s music, and show how surprisingly modern his sound world continues to be today.
The starting point is Ravel’s iconic Boléro - a hypnotic build-up of repetition and intensity that closely mirrors the logic of electronic music. A new work for orchestra and electronics composed by Fabien Cali, new arrangements, live visuals and a DJ set that brings Ravel’s composition into dialogue with the energy of contemporary rave culture.Classical instruments and electronic beats converge, culminating in a transformation where listening almost naturally evolves into dancing.
This results in a sensory performance in which music, visuals, and the body unite. From orchestral passages to pulsating electro: Rave-L invites you to experience Ravel as a living force on the dance floor.
