An ode to the blues with two exceptional singers. The classical soprano Christie Finn, also a brilliant performer and poet, and the musical jack-of-all-trades Liesa Van der Aa take the musicians of Ictus with them into the world of the blues.
For his 'American Lament', the French-American composer Christopher Trapani took inspiration from the blues of Bessie Smith and the Carter family, and from moving poems about the passage of Hurricane Katrina and the floods in the Southern United States. The result is something we have not heard since Luciano Berio's 'Folksongs': a refined and warm tribute to folk music.
Larry Polansky also draws on the American musical heritage. Not arrangements of early Americana, but a crossover between folk and the avant-garde experiments of Harry Partch and Lou Harrison.
