Liesa Van der Aa (1986) is a young violinist, composer and actor. She has written music for theatre projects by Lod, Toneelhuis, FC Bergman and Guy Cassiers. In February 2012 she released 'Troops', her debut album, produced by Boris Wilsdorf (Einstürzende Neubauten). On this album, Liesa, armed only with her violin, her voice and a clutch of special effects pedals, creates her own world of sound. As a stepping-stone towards a more comprehensive collaborative project in deSingel for the 2014-2015 season, we are currently presenting the Dowland project that she created for the Klara Festival.
To mark the four hundred and fiftieth birthday of the British composer John Dowland, Liesa Van der Aa continues to look for parallels between soundscape, renaissance, pop and experiment. She interweaves her own work with that of John Dowland, the most influential musician of the Elizabethan period. Liesa's own tracks make sudden U-turns into Dowland songs and scraps of Dowland's melancholy tone appear in the soundscapes.
