Lisa Hannigan & The Colorist Orchestra
Kobe Proesmans and Aarich Jespers, with their adventurous chamber pop collective The Colorist Orchestra retain a few outlines of existing songs and colour them in anew. In each case they invite an international singer and then re-arrange their repertoire and compose it all over again. The main focus is on instruments they designed themselves, together with traditional instruments used in unorthodox ways so as to arrive at a new sound. The character of this eight-man orchestra can be compared to that of a contemporary classical ensemble. Combined with easy-listening pop songs, these remixes provide fascinating crossovers between serious music and mainstream. deSingel has been a partner in successful joint projects in the past: Sumie Nagano (2014), Cibelle (2014) and Emiliana Torrini (2015). In 2016 a live album of the concert series with Emiliana Torrini was issued on the legendary UK label Rough Trade.
Lisa Hannigan, lady of Irish folk-pop, is the guest singer in this latest project with the Colorists. She started her career as a member of the Damien Rice Band, but she has also made a considerable impression since the start of her solo career in 2007. Her roots in the Irish tradition link up seamlessly with pop. Her third album, ‘At Swim’ (2016) brought her a major international breakthrough. Her musical adventures had previously led to cooperation with Ray LaMontagne, Richard Hawley, Herbie Hancock and Glen Hansard.
