London Philharmonic Orchestra olv. Alain Altinoglu
Patricia Kopatsjinskaja viool
The disarming vision of a top violinist in bare feet, passionately stamping and rocking, is burned onto every music lover’s brain. Patricia Kopatchinskaja is and remains a phenomenon in classical music. Igor Stravinsky’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra demands lashings of virtuosity and intriguing expressiveness, and is absolutely perfect for her. Stravinsky’s exuberant sound stands in sharp contrast to Ravel’s emotional testimony about the First World War. In ‘Le Tombeau de Couperin’, originally a six-part piano suite, he commemorates the death of six close friends in the war.
There is little trace of intimacy in the opening chords of Beethoven’s Third Symphony. With two powerful chords, Beethoven literally broke down the door to Romanticism with his Eroica. Watch out, here comes Beethoven!
This is a unique opportunity to hear de Munt/La Monnaie’s young French musical director Alain Altinoglu at work with the world-famous London orchestra with which he is a regular guest conductor.
