Lynn Cassiers' yun

JazzLab’s 25^th anniversary is the perfect opportunity for four leading musicians to start new projects. One of these is ‘Yun’ from electronica artist and vocalist Lynn Cassiers. Lynn got the inspiration for Yun (Chinese for cloud) after singing standards in a Chinese nightclub for three months. Whilst this brought her closer to the ‘traditional’ standard, she also perceived how anachronistic this was. A dilemma that can also be heard in the Yun repertoire.
To the basic trio (piano, bas, drums) from her last project Imaginary Band she adds voices from the contemporary jazz and impro world: Bo Van der Werf (Octurn) and Jozef Dumoulin. Together this line-up takes on the Jazz Real Book in search of layers in the music that correspond to, or jar with, their own curated world.
