Madiha Figuigui & Band
Guigui's Mad (wereldcreatie)
Ambivalence is the key word in this new musical theatre production from Madiha Figuigui, a classically-trained singer of Moroccan origin. Her voice is simultaneously virile and fragile, sharp and soft. With her supple vocal phrasing she travels from West to East, diagonally across the history of music. The repertoire encompasses a broad selection of music: from Purcell and Bach to Ravel and Villa-Lobos, through Sephardic and Arabic traditions, ending up with her own jazzy compositions and improvisations. In Figuigui's music, beauty and poetry go hand in hand with an interest in history and current affairs, in conflict and harmony, and in inter-culturality.
During her musical journeys, Madiha Figuigui is backed up by musicians and image-makers who create a sparkling cocktail of a performance. The musicians come from the jazz and less orthodox classical worlds. Carlos Ramirez and Julie Duquesne, the image-makers from Team in Time, inject their passion for video and multimedia into the project. Expect world music with impressionistic streaks, classical and Brazilian, jazz and improvisation. A multimedia experiment which we are delighted to be supporting.
