Just like Melnikov in the concert with Le Concert Olympique, for this programme the leading violinist Isabelle Faust is combining orchestral works and chamber music. With works by the 19th-century masters Schumann and Mendelssohn and string and wind arrangements of Bach's 'Art of the Fugue'.

The unsurpassed Mahler Chamber Orchestra starts with the 'Hebrides Overture', which Mendelssohn wrote after a visit to those islands. There is more Mendelssohn at the end of the concert, in the form of the truly beautiful Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, one of the most frequently performed concertos of all time. Between the two, Isabelle Faust takes us to the unique world of Robert Schumann, presenting two real gems: the Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra and the First String Quartet.
