Muzikaal tribuut aan Mark Rothko
Manchester Collective ventures into a new adventure in classical music.
Manchester Collective is an ensemble without blinkers. These adventurous musicians venture into new work as convincingly as into classical repertoire, perform in both concert calls and factory halls, and have made daring collaborations their trademark. Meanwhile, the idiosyncratic productions of the still-young group have become a household name far beyond the United Kingdom. At DE SINGEL, they are joined by Sansara for a musical tribute to the American painter Mark Rothko. Naturally, Morton Feldman is essential here too. Already in 1971 the composer released a tribute to the then recently deceased artist. Feldman’s phenomenal Rothko Chapel is encircled by three contemporary responses to Rothko’s monumental colour fields – which will not only shine through in the music, but also in an immersive light installation. As Manchester Collective likes to promise: anyone who comes to listen with an open heart will get something extraordinary in exchange.
