Marc-André Hamelin

As a piano omnivore, the Canadian Marc-André Hamelin likes to exercise his fingers in some challenging repertoire and untrodden keyboard paths. From John Cage through Karlheinz Stockhausen to Franz Schubert: each one right up Hamelin’s street, with his big, supple hands. He also ventures into composition. In his Chaconne he goes back to Bach and the mature Pavane variée is a series of dreamy variations on a 16th-century model.
