Meccore String Quartet

The Meccore String Quartet is running off with one prize after another at international competitions. Their musicality comes fully to the fore in this multicoloured programme with a hint of neoclassicism. In his Fourth String Quartet we hear how Beethoven briefly looks back, though he already has one foot in early Romanticism. Szymanowski too stood on the bridge between two traditions. Although, as a composer between the wars, he went right to the boundaries of tonality, in his Second String Quartet he was already considering abstraction. The result is a mysterious creation in which lyricism and brute force go hand in hand. Sibelius struck the same cryptic note. The title he gave his Sixth String Quartet, 'Voces Intimae', refers above all to the middle section, which is the intimate, beating heart of this five-part composition.
