Mikhail Pletnev
Brahms & Dvořák
Mikhail Pletnev pianistic anthology with poetic works by Brahms and Dvořák.
Mikhail Pletnev has already had an impressive career. How fortunate that the keyboard genius is not yet thinking of stopping. If he has any say in the matter, there is still a whole world to come. Following a trajectory filled with exuberant Russian repertoire as a conductor, he now increasingly opts for the serenity of being behind the keyboard. In Antwerp, he curates a selection of short, unpretentious works by Johannes Brahms and Antonín Dvořák: pastoral ecological poems, a folkish rhapsody, sharp ‘humoresques’ and the Poetic Tone Pictures. But also a dynamic march, a lusty minuet and a bantering ballad. A visual, expressive programme, in which Pletnev no longer needs to be overly exuberant, but can imbue each and every note with meaning.
