Nadar Ensemble
Doppelgänger Deluxe
Following successful performances abroad, the eagerly awaited Belgian première of ‘Doppelgänger’ will be coming to our Theatre studio in a ‘deluxe’ version, tailor made for deSingel. In keeping with the theme of doubling up, Nadar uses music and projected images as equally important elements. The full scenic construction and its partial, almost choreographed transformation are essential parts of the production.
The performance opens with the visionary silent film ‘L'Homme Orchestre’ by Georges Méliès, featuring an orchestra made up of ‘doppelgangers’ of Méliès himself. ‘Run Time Error’ is an experimental video work in which the young Danish composer and performer Simon Steen-Andersen plays the space like a musical instrument. Johannes Kreidler takes Hegel as his reference point in a work for nine instruments, plus audio and video. And finally, there is ‘Generation Kill’ by Stefan Prins, a work that confronts four musicians with digital versions of themselves, while they are steered by game controllers who enter into all kinds of confrontations with different manifestations of the ‘real’ performers. Kreidler’s and Prins’s works were created at the Donaueschingen festival with deSingel co-producing.
