Nederlands Blazers Ensemble & Bart Moeyaert
De Hemel
Ten years ago, the poet and writer Bart Moeyaert, along with the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble (NBE), presented the first part of his Haydn trilogy in the Blue Hall. ‘De Schepping’ (’Creation’(, based on ‘Die Schöpfung’, was an unqualified success at the time. Following on from ‘Het Paradijs’ (’Paradise’(, based on ‘Die Jahreszeiten’, NBE and Moeyaert are completing their three-part cycle with ‘De Hemel’ (‘Heaven’(. In this adaptation, created by and for NBE, the seven adagios from Haydn’s ‘Sieben letzte Worte’ sound as they have never sounded before.
In 1786 in Cádiz, Haydn was commissioned to write a religious orchestral work, based on Christ’s seven last words on the cross and intended for a very special celebration of Easter. The composer was so pleased with his work that immediately afterwards he wrote three adaptations: one for string quartet, one for choir and one for piano. This new woodwind version is guaranteed to be a delight from start to finish. Not least because the texts in between the sections parts will not be spoken by the bishop of Cádiz, but by the virtuoso performer Bart Moeyaert. He is sure to intoxicate both young and old with his endlessly poetic language.
