Nederlands Blazers Ensemble
De Schepping
'The Creation' is a classical concert, which in many ways resembles a theatre performance - or is it the other way around? The eleven musicians of Nederlands Blazers Ensemble and author/narrator Bart Moeyaert have equivalent roles. The Vienna premiere of 'Die Schöpfung' (1798) - a composition for one hundred and eighty musicians! - was an enormous success. Josef Triebensee (1772-1846) made the adaptation for wind octet, contrabass, and kettledrums. At that time, adaptations of successful productions were quite common. For the Bohemian composer and oboist this was mere routine, as such music for wind and percussion was in great demand. The adaptation of 'Die Schöpfung' for eight wind instruments, in which even the vocal sections are turned instrumental, is a melodious rarity, which perhaps has not been played since the times of Triebensee. The adaptation takes its shape through an imagination, which even manages to recall a new story of creation. Bart Moeyaert wrote the story and tells the tale, during this family concert event. The first performance of this production - in the Amsterdam Concert Hall - was met with great applause by both the press and the public in general.
