Who would have thought it? One of the oldest and most prestigious symphony orchestras in the world is coming. Inspired and moulded by a procession of legendary principal conductors: Mahler, Toscanini, Bernstein, Boulez and so on. The New York Philharmonic kicks off with John Adams' 'The Chairman Dances', a cheerful, swinging work from the legendary opera 'Nixon in China'. In Prokofiev's First Violin Concerto, the violin first sings lyrically, is then lashed furiously, before floating off as in a fairytale. The classical superstar Frank-Peter Zimmermann guarantees fireworks! After the interval, Alan Gilbert and his orchestra pull out all the stops in the most revolutionary orchestral work ever, Berlioz' 'Symphonie Fantastique'. And fantastic it will be!
