She’s shaking up classical music. The New York Times
For this concert, the program originally included Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, Op. 15, and a selection from Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, Op. 64. At the pianist’s request, this program has been adjusted.
Alice Sara Ott:
“Following tendinitis earlier this year, I’ve realised over the past few days that playing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 is causing pain in my hand. I have therefore decided to perform Ravel’s Concerto in G major instead, which I’ve been playing throughout the season, and I ask for your understanding.”
With her sparkling virtuosity, profound musicality and refined style, Alice Sara Ott is one of the most fascinating pianists of her generation. In this concert, she presents her unique interpretation of Ravel's Piano Concerto preceded by a contemporary “overture” by composer Thierry Escaich, rooted in the same French tradition. This effervescent overture is followed by a compelling performance of Prokofiev's famous ballet music Romeo and Juliet. This suite brings Shakespeare's tragic love story to life with dramatic flair and heart-rending beauty. Prokofiev paints a rich palette of emotions: from intimate tenderness to fierce confrontations, supported by rhythmic intensity and lush orchestration. The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France is conducted by Jaap van Zweden.
