Brewaeys meets Poulenc - voice as raw emotion
The orchestra of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen brings Luc Brewaeys and Francis Poulenc into dialogue. In this commemorative year, Brewaeys’ music resonates alongside that of an influential predecessor. In L’uomo dal fiore in bocca, Brewaeys brings Pirandello’s existential monologue to life in a layered and penetrating musical language. You hear a man who knows that he will soon die. In a conversation with a passerby, he reveals how differently he has come to view life.
In La voix humaine, Poulenc presents a woman in her final, heart-wrenching phone call with a lost love. Two radical approaches to the human voice - one abstract and sound-focused, the other melodic and emotionally direct.
Conductor Sora Elisabeth Lee leads a programme in which music speaks as the ultimate universal language. She ensures that Brewaeys and Poulenc’s voices resonate powerfully.
