Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw & Maria João Pires & Ashot Khachatourian

The international star Maria João Pires and Ashot Khachatourian, one of her most promising pupils, will be our guests at deSingel! Together they will conjure up two perfect gems from the piano concerto repertoire.
The Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw starts with the inventive ‘Haffner Symphony’: you will imagine yourself in an opera, which is not surprising: this symphony was written immediately after the successful vocal work ‘Die Entführung aus dem Serail’.
After this, Pires will make the poetic opening theme from Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto blossom into a fully-formed masterpiece of drive and emotion. And Khachatourian dispels the dramatic thunderclouds from the opening bars of Mozart’s Twentieth Piano Concerto with a magical piano introduction: the starting point for a sensually stimulating dialogue.
This concert is part of the Partita Project, an initiative by a collective of performing artists who consider their role and responsibility in society.
