introduction Mark Delaere . 7.15pm . Conference room
During this utterly insane concert, Oxalys creates a lively image of the wild young group that shook the art world in the 1920s. The dada movement reacted against exaggerated romanticism and vague symbolism and wanted to do away with traditional art forms. To counter them the Dadaists presented their anti-art collages and nonsensical poems, based on arbitrariness and coincidence. The main protagonists in Paris were Satie and the group known as 'Les Six', among whom were the composers Poulenc and Milhaud. In the spirit of dada, they wrote mischievous music full of naughty boyish humour. Oxalys presents 'Les Mariés de la Tour Eiffel', the collective cabaret-style compositions by 'Les Six' - which are often talked about but rarely performed! In addition, there is more eccentric music from their contemporaries Ravel, Stravinsky and Martinu. Interspersed through the music are Dadaist sound poems chanted through a megaphone. Total anarchy!
