Raga legend Pandit Nayan Ghosh and son Ishaan: traditional music with contemporary flair.
Pandit Nayan Ghosh (b. 1956) is a unique figure in North Indian music. He is regarded as a maestro both for his solo and accompanying performances on the tabla (double drum), and for his total mastery of raga music on the sitar (long-necked lute). During his fifty-year career, he has become an ambassador for traditional Indian music. He has not only shared a stage with Indian legends including Ravi Shankar, Vilayat Khan and Nikhil Banerjee, but also with minimal composer Terry Riley and avant-garde pianist Yosuke Yamashita. His son Ishaan Ghosh is also a tabla virtuoso. With his group Araj he plays traditional music with contemporary flair and exceptional virtuosity. With Nayan Ghosh, Araj presents a varied programme with classical and semi-classical styles of Indian music.
