Pianoduo Genova & Dimitrov
The story behind the Genova & Dimitrov Piano Duo sounds like a fairytale. Once upon a time there were two pianists, a girl and a boy, who both dreamt of careers as soloists. They studied day and night at the Musikhochschule in Hanover. One day they enrolled for a solo competition in Korea. Shortly before they left they were looking for a room for a final rehearsal. But there was only one room free in the whole school: a room with two grand pianos. They decided to warm up with a Chopin Etude, playing in synchronisation. Pure magic! It was as if they had grown wings! They got the taste for more. And that is how it happened. They have been a duo since 1995. And may they play happily ever after. They have won all the first prizes for piano duos all over the world. But then the perfect symbiosis that goes by the name of Genova & Dimitrov is unsurpassed.
What is more, the repertoire for two pianos is more abundant and exciting than you might think. This programme comprises no adaptations, only works originally conceived for two pianos. The bulk of the concert consists of two Suites by Arenski, Rachmaninov’s teacher and one of Russia’s greatest promoters of music for two pianos. The effervescent, masterly and lyrical dialogues could have been written specially for the four hands of the Genova & Dimitrov duo.
