And the most amazing thing of all is that after an hour this 'Mantra' will stay with you like an ear-worm. His secret is the richly spun web of sound from two magical-sounding pianos and the electronic distortion created by the ring modulator.
By tackling 'Mantra', Pierre-Laurent Aimard, a living legend and advocate of the twentieth-century repertoire, is once again exploring an iconic work. What is more, this French pianist obtained his knowledge of the work from Stockhausen himself. Which makes this performance something truly special, in the same way as 'Mantra' became a milestone in musical history.
