Under the banner of “I sing of the sighing soul”, the Pluto Ensemble and the acclaimed Hathor Consort take us through the various phases of life. The 'Stabat Mater' symbolises the journey from birth to death in a single image: the lonely mother, beside her dead son on the cross. This concert also places a meditation on the death of Schmelzer alongside the dream of protection contained in psalm 109 in Colonna’s composition. The result is a contemplation of the impermanence of existence and the hope of solace, conveyed in the fusion of voice and strings. In this seldom-heard music, one can often hear the freedom brought about by the discovery of a new direction. The result is fresh, attractive and varied. Particularly in the virtuoso hands of Marnix De Cat and Romina Lischka.
