We like to keep our fingers on the pulse here. So when the remarkable young countertenor Maarten Engeltjes set up a new Baroque ensemble, our curiosity was piqued. Especially when this turned out to be a balanced group of outstanding young musicians complemented by distinguished, more experienced colleagues. The first Pergolesi project was already an immediate hit. Now we once again bring the company to Antwerp with their new programme. Together with his Hungarian contemporary, the soprano Emöke Baráth, Maarten Engeltjes seeks out Bach arias that are seldom performed. The delicious duet ‘Wenn Sorgen auf mir dringen’, for example, or ‘Kommt, ihr angefochtnen Sünder’. There are sure to be (re)discoveries here that will echo in your mind for a long time.
