Prometheus Ensemble
For the start of music@venture the Prometheus Ensemble and Etienne Siebens invite you to deSingel's first concert hall, the entrance hall. The programme comprises works by three extremely varied composers and personalities: Boulez, Brewaeys and Grisey. Oban, undoubtedly one of Brewaeys' strongest pieces for ensemble, gives sonorous shape to one of music's fundamental elements: the delicate relationship between silence and sound, or to put it another way, between fast and slow music. Périodes, by Gérard Grisey (1948-1998), who met a premature death, and the enchanting Dérive by Pierre Boulez (b. 1925) are tonal reflections on rhythm, structure and timbre. The fact that this by no means comes across as dull or forced is precisely what the festival's curator, Luc Van Hove, wishes to show.
