The Polish pianist Rafał Blechacz will keep you in a trance from the first note to the last. At the tender age of twenty, he won the renowned International Chopin Piano Competition. The jury concluded that there was no point in awarding a second prize, and Blechacz went home with all five awards! It goes without saying that Chopin is included in his eagerly awaited recital at deSingel. But Blechacz also proves that he has more up his sleeve than polonaises and mazurkas. A sonata and a rondo by Mozart for example. And a sonata by Beethoven, in which he conjures up wind instrument and tutti passages from the grand piano as if it were a symphony orchestra. Finally, in Schumann’s Second Sonata Blechacz demonstrates his superhumanly nimble-fingered technique and unflagging stamina. Breathtaking!
