Randall Goosby and Zhu Wang breathe new life into forgotten classical masterpieces.
In 2021, the young American violinist Randall Goosby immediately made clear what he stood for with his debut album Roots: virtuosity in performance and recognition for music by almost forgotten composers of colour. He places work by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, William Grant Still and Florence Price alongside that of Gershwin and Dvořák. At DE SINGEL he does roughly the same together with his brother in crime, pianist Zhu Wang. They present a resounding programme with unjustly forgotten gems by Joseph Bologne (alias Chevalier de Saint-Georges) alongside canonical works by Mozart and Schubert. The Strad described Goosby’s sound as ‘exciting, nimble and silvery’. Expect an initiation into hidden gems with a new star in the violinists’ firmament.
