Remix Ensemble Casa da Música olv. Peter Rundel

The Remix Ensemble's home turf is Rem Koolhaas' architectural gem, the Casa da Música in Porto. As they have always collaborated intensively with leading composers and directors, they are familiar with every possible type of contemporary music genre. For works characteristic of the 20th century, we go back to the Italy of the early seventies. You can recognise Salvatore Sciarrino by his style, which is full of refined sounds. They are the result of the neo-impressionist writing of an autodidact. Silence also plays a crucial part. In the work of Franco Donatoni we hear the craftsman constantly polishing his compositions, fleeting and delicate. The young Portuguese Luís Antunes Pena approaches composition in a very different way. His primary focus is on electro-acoustic music. Intensive computer work and personally designed ICT tools are an essential part of his composition processes. Thanks to new forms of sound and rhythm, the results are aurally striking. The Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas also draws inspiration from the legacy of Morton Feldman and Luigi Nono. His pieces often combine unrealistic and irrational elements: as well as tonal allusions, they also conjure up memories of the scores of bygone days. Hence the name Remix.
