As the established ensemble for contemporary music at the Casa da Musica in Porto, Remix has in only a few years acquired a strong international presence. Guests for the second time in deSingel, they have programmed two major works by the Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho.
In 'Lichtbogen' you will hear the superb colours of the northern lights through the use of mainly high-pitched instruments. The lower tones and the live electronics intermingle with the light of the heights and at times ensure an enthrallingly ominous feel which towards the end washes over everything. The majestic 'Graal Théâtre' violin concerto was first performed by Gidon Kremer and has since then been a work much loved by various violinists, including Angel Gimeno.
The beautiful voice of Barbara Hannigan can be heard again in the pieces by Jan van de Putte and Claude Vivier. Van de Putte is one of the Netherlands' most original composers. He wrote 'Uma só Divina Linha' on the basis of a poem by Álvaro de Campos, an alias for Fernando Pessoa. The Canadian visionary composer Claude Vivier (1948-1983) wrote 'Bouchara', a love song in an invented language, where the score for the singer does not afford her a moment's rest. Literally breathtaking!
