There is no lack of pianists who can play fast and loud. Few, though, understand the art of rhetoric and expression, in which Richard Goode excels. In his master-classes, he does not concern himself with questions of technique and touch, but rather teaches the students to penetrate deep into the score and to understand the cohesion of the composition and the composer's musical ideas, in order to convey these to the audience.
