Composer Caroline Shaw is a woman of many talents. She has one great fascination: the voice. “When I hear people talk, it sounds as though there are a hundred different instruments coming out of their mouths.” And indeed, her ‘Partita for 8 Voices’ is a work for eight voices, but it feels as though the whole world is coming to have its say. The breathtaking vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth skilfully switches between spoken singing and polyphony, between pathetic sighs and cheerful melodies. And Shaw herself sings too! She also sings in David Lang’s work ‘The Little Match Girl Passion’, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s well-known fairy tale. You will be treated to a fine example of vocal acrobatics and intriguing aural theatre. Because Roomful of Teeth is an unconventional ensemble with exceptional performers.
