The top German clarinetist Sabine Meyer has certainly made the clarinet sexy again. Thanks to her, the clarinet has regained the attention as a solo instrument. After playing principal clarinet with the Berlin Philharmonic for a number of years, she quickly rose to the top as a soloist and a chamber player. She gathered together a number of fellow musicians from the Ensemble Collage, amongst whom are the excellent violinist and much admired Benjamin Schmid -- whom you already know, the cellist Clemens Hagen from the Hagen Quartet, and other notable instrumentalists from Germany's leading orchestras. A fantastic combination you might say! You will no doubt greatly appreciate Beethoven's Septet and Brahms' lyrical First Serenade. Brahms' lyrical First Serenade will also be performed in its original nonet version before he orchestrated it for large orchestra.
