An audiovisual performance about migration and identity.
A Forbidden Distance is an audiovisual performance that explores the relationship between identity and displacement. The project brings together Iranian-Canadian brothers Mohammad and Mehdi (Saint Abdullah), Irish sound artist Ian McDonnell (Eomac), and London-based video artist and film-maker Rebecca Salvadori in their first collaborative creation.
Drawing on their diverse backgrounds, the work examines what it means to live with displacement and migration as constant realities. What significance does an individual life hold when you are forced to move, carried along on the nomadic currents of our time?
By intertwining sound and image, A Forbidden Distance investigates how identity endures and transforms in a world of movement and borders. At the same time, the project itself serves as an example of intercultural collaboration between artists from different geographical and artistic contexts.
