Seong-Jin Cho
trakteert op Bach, Schumann, Chopin en Schönberg
Seong-Jin Cho brings Chopin’s waltzes to life.
Chopin elevated the waltz to sublime concert music, full of refinement, nuance, and an almost weightless elegance. In the hands of Korean star pianist Seong-Jin Cho, these miniatures acquire a unique richness of tone and movement. With natural flair and an exceptional sense of colour, he makes each waltz dance and speak.
Since his victory at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2015, Cho has evolved into one of the leading pianists of his generation. His playing is praised for its refined touch, transparency, and seemingly effortless virtuosity. He moves with equal ease through Chopin’s lyrical universe and the broader piano repertoire.
In this programme, Chopin is framed by works from Bach, Schönberg, and Schumann. Here too, dance takes centre stage, albeit in different forms: clear and structured in Bach, provocative and modern in Schönberg, and whimsical and imaginative in Schumann.
The result is a recital in which styles and eras converge. Three centuries of music come together in one seamless flow, carried by a pianist who effortlessly connects sound, form, and imagination.
