Sergei Leiferkus - Simion Skigin

Sergei Leiferkus belongs in the great Russian tradition of virtuoso baritones and basses, the first of whom was the legendary bass Fyodor Shalyapin (1873-1938). Shalyapin was the first Russian singer to receive broad international recognition. In performances that were both dramatically and vocally breathtaking, he took Russian opera to a peak of expression.
