'You Us We All' follows the characters Virtue, Love, Hope, Death and Time as they seek their way through modern life. In its form conceived as a court masque, the British precursor to the opera, the performance begins with a fanfare of baroque extravagance. Everything is larger than life. Even the language is a complex hybrid of Middle English and contemporary idiom. In a series of musical and theatrical episodes, the characters explore how they can give meaning to their lives, while in the background, life's wrecking ball does its work. They end up as mere mortals: blessed and defined by virtue, love, hope and death. At the mercy of time.
BOX (baroque orchestration x) offers the timbre of a set of centuries-old instruments, but they mainly collaborate with rock artists. Founder Pieter Theuns is backed up by nine musicians, who have won their spurs with a wide variety of artists, such as Sir John Elliot Gardiner and Björk. Composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Shara Worden is best known as a member of the indie rock band My Brightest Diamond, but has also worked with Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens. Robert Wilson selected one of Andrew Ondrejcak's performances for New York's Guggenheim Museum. Ondrejcak is currently working with Bryce Dessner (The National) on a project for the Next Wave Festival (New York).
