Sinister Sister
Plays Bartók (Made in deSingel)
Vibraphone player Pieter Claus started out with the Sinister Sister jazz fusion band to tackle Frank Zappa’s music together with his soulmates. However, the time has come for a new challenge: Béla Bartók. The latter was not only one of the great innovators of 20th-century music, he also incorporated East European folk music into his compositions. And in the USA he worked with jazz musicians including the clarinettist Benny Goodman. Pieter Claus has selected typical pieces from Bartok’s orchestral gems and also uses piano works such as ‘Im Freien’ and ‘Romanian Dances’. The adaptations are tailor-made for the band: dance grooves, exciting rhythms, sparkling melodies and surprising twists. Bartók gets a real facelift through the sound and attitude of Sinister Sister.
