Sinister Sister plays Zappa
Two years after tackling Béla Bartók at deSingel, these quirky, rocking jazz cats return to a project that once brought them together, the music of Frank Zappa. Indeed, their name is derived from Zappa: ‘Sinister Footwear’ is an iconic three-part Zappa composition, created when arranging a guitar solo. Vibraphone virtuoso Pieter Claus and the band’s original drummer Lander Gyselinck had been under Zappa’s spell for years. They gathered together kindred spirits and Sinister Sister was born, with a focus on Zappa’s instrumental music. The Sisters make the difference with instrumentation and sound, up-to-date grooves and modern improvisation. Sinister Sister doesn’t go back in time, but translates Zappa’s music into the here and now. And whenever they can into tomorrow too.
