Sir András Schiff
Carte Blanche
Sir András Schiff, world-class piano icon, comes to Antwerp for a piano recital.
‘Surely you don’t know a year in advance what you’ll have for breakfast that day either?’ No, pianist Sir András Schiff has not yet drawn up a programme so far in advance. The works he plays will depend upon the acoustics of the hall, on the instrument that he must play, on inspiration, - and the mood? – on the day. Speaking from behind his keyboard, he will then guide those present through his catch of the day. But if we’re going to sleep soundly at night with anyone, then it’s with this piano icon. For decades he has been at the global summit, and at home in such a wide repertoire that he can pick at random from the library in his brain. Whether that will be Beethoven, Bach, Bartók or someone else entirely remains to be seen. But it will certainly be Schiff, and that is enough.
