Flamboyant, adventurous, spirited, inventive. The French cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton is no shallow 'marketing catch', but a gripping, honest, limitless interpreter. She covers a broad repertoire, from Monteverdi to the present day. What's more, she is in command of an inexhaustible arsenal of expressive possibilities. Ranging from the mysterious murmur and slender legatos to virtuoso vocalisation and heartrending cries. Her favourite duet partner, Imogen Cooper, transfers all these qualities to the piano.
This duo is particularly creative in devising original programmes. They avidly look for the relationships between composers and their work, pointing to concealed or clearly visible similarities. Explore with them the thread that runs through it all, or simply soak up the programme. You will be able to experience instinctively that music history is one continuum, where ideas and structures permeate and are interwoven with each other
