PLEASE NOTE! Owing to the unexpected unavailability of Christianne Stotijn this concert has been postponed (date unknown).
Initially Susan Gritton was programmed to appear at this concert. However, for personal reasons she cancelled her tour with Christianne Stotijn and Joseph Breinl. She will be replaced by the English soprano Sophie Daneman.
The recital begins with Purcell's 'What can we poor females do?' The obvious answer to this question is 'Sing'!
Although the English soprano Sophie Daneman is especially well-known as a baroque specialist, she also feels very much at home in the Lieder repertoire. Audiences will be pleased to welcome back the Dutch mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn after her last successful performance in deSingel. Together with the pianist Joseph Breinl, Daneman and Stotijn will immerse themselves in the rich repertoire of the vocal duet. These were originally intended to be performed at home within the family circle. However, the genre has gradually become more highly regarded and Mendelssohn and Schumann's duets are now considered to be fully-fledged works of art suitable for concert hall performance. Dvoráks 'Moravian Duets' are among his finest songs. However, the surprise of the evening will be the duets by Fanny Hensel, Mendelssohn's sister. Stotijn and Daneman thus prove that besides being able to sing, women are also very talented composers!
