Symfonieorkest van de Munt - Kazushi Ono
Under the direction of Chief Conductor Kazushi Ono, the Symphony Orchestra of the Munt will portrait the late orchestral work of Johannes Brahms (1833-1897). Later in life, the ingenious and refined dreamer no longer lent himself to the sonorous compositions of his youth. 'The Academic Festival Overture', written on receiving an honorary degree from the University of Breslau, is a brilliant potpourri of student and other songs, which evokes beer glasses bashing, rather than subtly worded 'bon-mots'. The 'Double Concerto' illustrates how, even in the case of an author of outstanding abstract music, his personal emotional life can form the underlying motivation for his work. In the 'Double Concerto' Brahms put his problematic friendship with violinist Joseph Joachim to score. Brahms finally reveals one of the sources of his unrivalled artistry in the 'Fourth Symphony.' The 'First Symphony', forever postponed, was finally dedicated to Beethoven, while his 'Fourth' and last symphony put old Bach on a bed of roses, more explicitly this time around.
