Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen / Jakob Lehmann
Hommage to Couperin and Mozart
Four centuries of music converge around Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21
Before the main program of the Flanders Symphony Orchestra, you can enjoy a musical introduction in the form of the 1414 Concerts, at 14:14 on the Kunstenplein.
‘The best thing that history bequeaths us is the enthusiasm it inspires,’ wrote Goethe. Oscar Wilde, on the other hand, remarked: ‘The one duty we owe to history is to rewrite it.’
In this concert, both ideas converge. The Flanders Symphony Orchestra takes you on a journey through 400 years of musical history, where each master draws inspiration from the legacy of their predecessors and rewrites it. Pianist Jonathan Fournel, winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2021, is the featured soloist. Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21, with its timeless charm and perfect balance between virtuosity and melodic beauty, serves as the starting point. Our destination: endless connection in the Blue Hall.
