Martijn Dendievel and Anastasia Kobekina reimagine Brahms, Haydn, and Mendelssohn
Saint Nicholas, carnival, marriage… Traditions are there to be cherished, but they can only keep on existing if they continue to adapt to new eras. This is precisely what Martijn Dendievel and cellist Anastasia Kobekina do in this concert: they tackle traditional music with fresh ideas and a hefty dose of innovation.
Kobekina, a rising star in the music world, is unafraid to experiment. Not only does she play her cello, but she also improvises with Vivaldi. Together with Dendievel she takes the classical masterpieces of Brahms, Haydn and Mendelssohn out of their box and gives them an energetic contemporary twist. Moreover, with this concert, brand-new chief conductor Martijn Dendievel kicks off his Mendelssohn cycle. Over the coming season, he will perform Mendelssohn’s five symphonies with ‘his’ Symphonic Orchestra.
