Prick up your ears for Frozen in Time from the Israeli-American composer Avner Dorman. A plainly dumfounding concerto for percussion and orchestra that drifts on an explosive mix of colours and energies. With flickers of grunge, Indian talas, a stray Mozart theme, rhythms from Afro-Cuban jazz and a generous dash of Broadway. Percussionist Christoph Sietzen switches at lightning speed between marimba, drums, cow bells, vibraphones and African percussion… prepare for fireworks for eyes and ears alike. In addition, conductor Joost guides the orchestra through a colourful anthology of the best festive music from our canon: from Dvořák’s jingling Carnaval Ouverture, to Saint-Saëns’ elegant swan from the Carnaval des animaux, to Strauss’ jolly Fledermaus.
