Terra Nova places forgotten 18th-century musical masterpieces alongside Haydn and Mozart.
Right since its foundation, the Terra Nova Collective has lived up to its name. Under the direction of clarinettist Vlad Weverbergh, the ensemble unearths 18th century gems ripe for discovery and presents them alongside well-known masterpieces. One of these gems is the Symphony No. 9 from the Flemish composer Hébert Leemans. He caused a furore in Paris, was adored by aristocratic families and wrote some fourteen symphonies. Another forgotten purveyor to the court of musical gems is the Afro-French violinist, composer and conductor Joseph Bologne, also known as Chevalier de St. Georges. With this instructive programme, the Terra Nova Collective proves that their music should not be considered inferior to that of their famous counterparts Haydn and Mozart.
